Old Romary Biscuit Factory
Alfred Romary set up the family business here in 1862 baking his famous Romary Biscuits. They were exported all over the world. Queen Victoria even paid this little bakery a visit in 1876 and loved the biscuits so much she granted them a Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty.
In 1935 Rowntree purchased the company and built a new factory elsewhere in Tunbridge Wells but baking continued here in Church Road on a smaller scale for some time. Rowntree stopped making the Tunbridge Wells Wafers locally in 1957.
The factory is now home to a very popular local clothing store, click below to explore and see if you can spot the old oven in the basement where the biscuits were baked.
