Located in High Brooms, the first cylinder was built in 1878 with the second and third following in 1888 and 1931 and have dominated the landscape ever since. However, due to advances in technology, the gas is now stored in underground pipes in more cost effective ways.​The cylinders were decommissioned in May 2012 by Southern Gas Networks. and finally demolished in 2014 to make way for homes.
